The Lake District  itself hardly needs any introduction. is farming country and the landscape has been altered through the centuries by the
farms within it
. In addition to the choice natural scenery, amongst some of England’s finest, there are also lots of interesting ‘man-made’
attractions to visit (some more publicised than others). Why not start with the picturesque village of Hawkshead, which is 1/2 mile away.
Beatrix Potter’s former home, Hill Top (NT), lies near Sawrey, whilst The Wordsworth Museum in nearby Grasmere, occupies Dove Cottage,
which the poet William Wordsworth made his home between 1799 and 1808.
There are also many NT properties in the vicinity, from the magnificent Levens Hall to the tiny Old Bridge House at Ambleside.

Hardy breeds of sheep such as Herdwicks graze the fell pastures providing food and wool which powered the economy in bygone times.
The enclosure acts led to the vast tracts of dry stone walls a (real Cumbrian skill to build)
The Lake District is famous for its Farmers Markets and agricultural prowess.
